The PCVC675K may be supported by the newer uvcvideo driver, so try unloading the pwc driver and loading the uvcvideo driver:

Code: Select all
rmmod pwc
modprobe uvcvideo

What do you have in /dev?

Code: Select all
ls /dev/*

OK, let's try again with the pwc module. Create the file /etc/modprobe.d/pwc with the following contents:

Code: Select all
alias video0 pwc
options pwc compression=0

Then reboot. If that doesn't work, try putting the above two lines in /etc/modprobe.d/aliases.conf instead and reboot.

Well, you don't have a device /dev/video0, which is why the xawtv and mplayer commands you are using don't work. You're telling xawtv and mplayer to use a non-existent device (/dev/video0). The question is, though, what device, if any, you do have. Try the following, to find out more.

1. Check that the pwc module is running (use the lsmod command to see).
2. Unplug the USB Webcam.
3. Issue the dmesg command as root user and note the last line of the output.
4. Plug in the USB Webcam.
5. Issue the dmesg command as root user.
6. Paste here the additional lines that appeared in the Konsole/Terminal window from the second dmesg command, i.e. the new lines that appeared at the end of the output; the difference between the output in Steps 3 and 5.

Pwc module is not running

Output of two steps is:

Code: Select all
[  243.514056] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 2

[  331.063037] usb 2-1: new full-speed USB device number 3 using uhci_hcd
[  331.585936] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0471, idProduct=0307
[  331.585944] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=1
[  331.585948] usb 2-1: SerialNumber: 0213021180103A60
[  332.681887] pwc: Unknown parameter `compression'

Delete the following lines from /etc/modprobe.d/pwc and /etc/modprobe.d/aliases.conf:

Code: Select all
alias video0 pwc
options pwc compression=0

then reboot and repeat the procedure I gave in my last post, and post the additional dmesg lines again. Then also post the output of the following command:

Code: Select all
lsmod | grep -E '(videodev|pwc)'
