Could you please post your Xorg.0.log ?
In any case, I forgot to say that I also added

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
EndSection

to my /etc/x11/xorg.conf

Could you please try that too?

In the end, my xorg.conf looks like this:

Code: Select all
Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier     "Main Layout"
        Screen      0  "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
EndSection

Section "Module"
        SubSection "extmod"
                Option      "omit xfree86-dga"
        EndSubSection
        Load  "i2c"
        Load  "ddc"
        Load  "vbe"
        Load  "dri"
        Load  "glx"
        Load  "synaptics"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
        Option      "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true"
        Option      "AccelMethod" "UXA"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        Option      "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
        Option      "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
        Option      "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        BusID       "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
        Device     "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Monitor    "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
        Mode         0666
EndSection

sorry, I wrote a lot of those original instructions :(

also try this as root:

Code: Select all
systemctl disable x-setup

which attempts to make a (very good) guess at what /etc/X11/xorg.conf file should look like.

Make certain as in the instructions, you have "nomodeset" in /etc/default/grub and "blacklist radeon" in the modules file per the instructions.

Due to a slightly loose SATA cable for my OS drive, I recently installed sabayon 14.01 a dozen times without issue.

The other issue you may be facing is in newer Intel based laptops, the on chip Intel graphics are in use prior to heavy load or games being run on your machine. Unfortunately, I do not have such a machine, thus am not much help there.

Good luck! and keep trying!!!
