Working with new (up to date) install of Sabayon 11. By default, my Canon imageclass MF 5950dw printer is recognized as it is on the local network, but there are no drivers installed. At the Canon site, I found 64-bit drivers in rpm format. In looking inside the rpm package, I find ppd files which may be useful to cups (v 1.61) or the system settings agent?
So, is there a command that will convert an rpm file to a file that can be installed on Sabayon? If so, what is it? I have installed alien if that is helpful.
If there is not a way to convert the driver installer, if I extract the ppd files found in the rpm file, can I copy them to a particular sub-directory and have cups recognize them so that I can enable this printer?
If that won't work, would someone please tell me how to make this printer work on my system?
Thank you,
Mark
