Gnome 3.4.2 Date & Time Not Setting [Solved]

Post by ElectricPrism » Sat Dec 01, 2012 0:56

Whenever I try to set the time under "System Settings -> Date and Time", it fails to update the system time.

I read on the Arch Forums that versions < Gnome 3.4 uses /etc/rc.conf and new versions switched to SystemD, does anyone have any idea what could be going on and how to fix it?

have you tried just using the date command instead? Something like:
# date -s "9 DEC 2012 20:09:00"

or use NTP

You could also try the following:

1) Install openrc-settingsd:
(as root)

Code: Select all

equo install openrc-settingsd

2) Activate the service and set it to start on boot:
(as root)

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/openrc-settingsd start
rc-update add openrc-settingsd default

You should now be able to set the time and date on GNOME.

Gnome 3.4.2 won't allow me to change my time

Post by ElectricPrism » Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:24

Hello, I'm trying to use the Gnome "Date and Time" tool to update my system time, and when I save the settings it forgets them when I close and reopen it.

My motherboard is a standard LGA 1366 X85 by EVGA.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure if you are dual booting but maybe there is something to help you here: http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... th_Windows

Merging identical topics, ElectricPrism, please don't create multiple threads on the same subject.

Did you try what I suggested in this message?

@micia - as you can see from the timestamps there was a 1 month + gap between my topics, between that time I forgot about the original thread - thanks for merging them and cleaning up the forum.

@spikeyb - yes I am dual booting, I'll try your suggestion next time reboot to sabayon.

@wolfden - I'll try that as well

Installed NTP and setup as see on the wiki, so far so good.
