Is my graphics card on

Postby imu96 » Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:42

I have a HP-G62 laptop but I do not know whether my integrated graphics card is on or off and I want to turn it on if it is off. Please let me know how to turn it on or to find out if it is on already.
Thank you.

Could you tell us something more about the system?

F.ex. what graphics is used?
What is the output of
Code: Select all
lspci -v -s `lspci | awk '/VGA/{print $1}'`
or
Code: Select all
lshw -C display
and
Code: Select all
eselect opengl list
?

Eventually you could check /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Code: Select all
bash: lspci: command not found
lspci: option requires an argument -- 's'
Usage: lspci [<switches>]

Basic display modes:
-mm             Produce machine-readable output (single -m for an obsolete format)
-t              Show bus tree

Display options:
-v              Be verbose (-vv for very verbose)
-k              Show kernel drivers handling each device
-x              Show hex-dump of the standard part of the config space
-xxx            Show hex-dump of the whole config space (dangerous; root only)
-xxxx           Show hex-dump of the 4096-byte extended config space (root only)
-b              Bus-centric view (addresses and IRQ's as seen by the bus)
-D              Always show domain numbers

Resolving of device ID's to names:
-n              Show numeric ID's
-nn             Show both textual and numeric ID's (names & numbers)
-q              Query the PCI ID database for unknown ID's via DNS
-qq             As above, but re-query locally cached entries
-Q              Query the PCI ID database for all ID's via DNS

Selection of devices:
-s [[[[<domain>]:]<bus>]:][<slot>][.[<func>]]   Show only devices in selected slots
-d [<vendor>]:[<device>]                        Show only devices with specified ID's

Other options:
-i <file>       Use specified ID database instead of /usr/share/misc/pci.ids
-p <file>       Look up kernel modules in a given file instead of default modules.pcimap
-M              Enable `bus mapping' mode (dangerous; root only)

PCI access options:
-A <method>     Use the specified PCI access method (see `-A help' for a list)
-O <par>=<val>  Set PCI access parameter (see `-O help' for a list)
-G              Enable PCI access debugging
-H <mode>       Use direct hardware access (<mode> = 1 or 2)
-F <file>       Read PCI configuration dump from a given file

This is the output for the first one.

Second one:

Code: Select all
lshw: command not found
even after run in sudo.

Code: Select all
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   ati
  [2]   xorg-x11 *
  [3]   nvidia

For the third one.

You have to run the provided command as root = su

2.
imu96 wrote:lshw: command not found

What about to install it?
Code: Select all
# equo install lshw

3.

Thought you have a system with 2 graphic cards…
I suppose you get a graphical environment, or am I wrong? What else should run otherwise, if not the only one card you have?
But feel free to examine /var/log/Xorg.0.log

But feel free to examine /var/log/Xorg.0.log

No idea how to do that.

You can for example use less, it's just a text file:
Code: Select all
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log

From all of the above it is clear that your card is recognized by the system and the appropriate driver is loaded.
Do you experience any issues?
