Latest GRUB Update Still Showing v1.98 After Reboot [Solved]

Postby tonyawards » Sat Jun 18, 2011 1:52

I recently did updates and got the new 1.99 grub, but after installing it and rebooting I still have 1.98 showing in the bootup screen. Today I got the revision-1 update, and it still shows 1.98 for my grub at bootup. The rev.1 has also taken away the blue background image and reduced it to the basic screen (no big deal, but I wonder why).

I did an equo search for grub, and get the result below:

It seems like all is up to date but, how can I direct 1.99 to take over from 1.98 when I boot?

I've googled, and looked for a thread here that has this already, but w/o success, so forgive me if I've missed the forest for the trees...

Thanks, all.

No idea WHY you would want it if 1.98 is actually working fine.

The grub binary image also needs to be installed in /boot if you really want to use it.
Code: Select all
grub2-install /dev/sda

Reboot and hope it works. :D

No real reason, joost, except that I stay as current as I can with SL (without going with limbo - this is my primary computer), but hey, if 1.98 is no real issue I'll stay with it for now.

It still seems a little odd that my equo search shows 1.98 as available and 1.99 as installed, but the grub bootup screen doen't reflect that. Is that just how it looks w/o installing the grub binary you mentioned? Which one do you think I am really running?

Thanks.

The running grub version (installed in /boot) is the version you see in the grub menu when you power on the PC.

Hello tonyawards, to get back your boot splash, just insert a live cd and do a bootloader recovery. It worked for me!

/boot is not touched for many reasons. Updating grub from package manager doesn't mean updating your MBR. They're two different things.

Yes I know. Am sticking to 1.98 since it is working fine.

As will I; no issue with mine either, so I'll just let the upgrade sit for now.

Thanks, everyone.
