CUPS and Sabayon 5.5 with canon PIXMA MP150 [Solved]

Postby xenophon2009 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 20:27

I have an sabayon 5.5 on my laptop with a printer canon Pixma MP150. The printer is installed correctly with CUPS and guttenprint. It's the default printer. But when I try to print something it's impossible !!!! Nothing is printing!

when I go to : http://localhost:631/jobs/ it's written the printer is stopped !

In states there is :

Idle - "Filter "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint.5.1" for printer "MP150" not available: No such file or directory"

How can I solve the problem ?

Is there a different version of that file? Open a Konsole/Terminal window and enter the following command in order to find out:

Code: Select all
ls -la /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint*

Yes, it's as I suspected, because the version of net-print/gutenprint in the Entropy repository is 5.2.5-r1, so I would have expected rastertogutenprint.5.2, not 5.1.

The latest version of the Gutenprint drivers in Portage is 5.2.6, so try installing those as it will probably fix the mismatch. As root in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync
layman -a sabayon # Do not worry is a message tells you the sabayon overlay is already added.
layman -S
# _IF_ the above layman commands fail with an error message about git not being installed, install git and then repeat the layman commands:
equo install git
emerge -1v =gutenprint-5.2.6
equo rescue spmsync

The last command above is to tell Entropy what you did via Portage.

Then launch the CUPS browser interface (http://localhost:631/), delete the printer and reinstall it.

Post the console output from the following commands, run as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
dmesg
lsusb
ls /etc/udev/rules.d/

Then, still with the Konsole/Terminal window open, unplug the USB cable from your PC, run the following command, then plug in the USB cable again:

Code: Select all
tail -f /var/log/messages

Re: CUPS and Sabayon 5.5 with canon PIXMA MP150

Postby Fitzcarraldo » Thu Mar 24, 2011 19:56

Please use the Code button when you post lengthy output; it save people having to scroll the screen up and down.

Your printer is being recognised as a scanner, that's the problem (probably!). Do the following as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
nano /etc/udev/rules.d/10-usbprinter.rules

Add the following line:

Code: Select all
ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="1709", MODE:="0660", GROUP:="lp"

Save the file and reboot.

If you want to understand the rationale for the above, see: What to do if CUPS does not recognise MP560 as a printer.
