Which driver package do you have installed? net-print/gutenprint? If not, install that package and try again. Use the CUPS manager to install and monitor printers in your browser: http://localhost:631/

Also check if the usblp module is loaded, as CUPS 1.4.* does not work with that module loaded. To check if it is loaded, as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
lsmod | grep usblp

To unload it:

Code: Select all
rmmod usblp

Just noticed that there is an ebuild for the Epson Inkjet Printer Driver (ESC/P-R) in Gentoo Bugzilla Bug Report No. 337953. So you could install that via a local overlay if the Gutenprint driver does not work. But try the Gutenprint driver first.

All the commands below must be done as root user (hence the hash prompt shown in the steps below). Open a Konsole/Terminal window and log in as the root user.

1. Synchronise with the Portage repositories those ebuilds on your PC that are in the Portage tree:

Code: Select all
# emerge --sync

2. Add the Sabayon overlay:

Code: Select all
# layman -a sabayon

If it is already added, synchronise with the Sabayon overlay repository those ebuilds on your PC that are in the Sabayon overlay:

Code: Select all
# layman -S

3. Edit /etc/make.conf and make sure it has the following lines in it at the end of the file:

Code: Select all
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="${PORTDIR_OVERLAY} /usr/local/portage/"
ACCEPT_LICENSE="*"

(Delete the line PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/" if already in the file.)

4. Set up the directories for the local overlay:

Code: Select all
# mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/net-print/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr

5. Stop Portage nagging about a missing name for your local overlay:

Code: Select all
# mkdir /usr/local/portage/profiles
# echo "local_overlay" > /usr/local/portage/profiles/repo_name

6. Go to Gentoo Bugzilla Bug Report No. 337953 and save the file epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.0.1.ebuild to your Desktop.

7. Copy the file into the correct directory:

Code: Select all
# cd /usr/local/portage/net-print/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr
# cp /home/fitzcarraldo/Desktop/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.0.1.ebuild .

(Obviously replace "fitzcarraldo" with your user name.)

8. Generate the manifest:

Code: Select all
# ebuild epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.0.1.ebuild manifest

9. Merge (install) the package:

Code: Select all
# emerge -1v epson-inkjet-printer-escpr

10. Tell Entropy what you did via Portage:

Code: Select all
# equo rescue spmsync

I have not tried it myself, so do not know if it will install.

i have a menssage * IMPORTANT: 2 config files in '/etc' need updating.
* See the CONFIGURATION FILES section of the emerge
* man page to learn how to update config files.

* IMPORTANT: 4 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.
i type eselect news list and i have

News items:
[1] unread 2009-04-18 Generation 1 Java Setup Deprecated
[2] unread 2009-07-02 kdeprefix and monolithic ebuilds issues
[3] unread 2010-03-23 New desktop subprofiles for GNOME and KDE
[4] unread 2010-08-01 --as-needed enabled in default profiles

i should do?

when i type ebuild epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.0.1.ebuild manifest done ok but when i type
emerge -lv epson-inkjet-printer-escpr
it's again menssage

* IMPORTANT: 4 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "epson-inkjet-printer-escpr".

emerge: searching for similar names... nothing similar found.

* IMPORTANT: 4 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

Read how to deal with Gentoo conf files using dispatch-conf

^Could be a problem with the git package in Entropy: http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23102. Keep updating and upgrading via Entropy until it works.
