Here's something else to try. Undo all your previous blacklisting and try the modification specified in the Gentoo Linux ALSA Guide in the section titled "Multiple sound cards".

Hi,
I have solved the sound card problem on Ubuntu by installing "linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-14-generic" package so now I have to solve it on Sabayon. I've already formatted all linuxes on the hdd and cancelled a laptop order but have changed my mind and I'm back on it. I'm finishing an installation and going to solve this problem soon as possible...
Some more information
Code: Select all
Sabayon pepe999 # cat /proc/asound/oss/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.20 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux Sabayon 2.6.31-sabayon #1 SMP Fri Sep 25 19:28:33 UTC 2009 x86_64
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
HDA Intel at 0xdd100000 irq 22

Audio devices:
0: STAC92xx Analog (DUPLEX)

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
31: system timer

Mixers:
0: IDT 92HD75B3X5

I don't know why but Ubuntu recognised my sound card as only one device but Sabayon linux as two of them.

What chipset does the following command return, as root in terminal.

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

Have you tried the following wiki article & passed a model=xxxx-xxx line to "snd-hda-intel" module.

Hi catalyst,
Yes I have. I can try some more options but I've tried quite enough options before and nothing's worked.
Thanks anyway, mate.. :)
Code: Select all
Sabayon pepe999 # cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: IDT 92HD75B3X5

I couldn't find any options for this codec in that Howto but I'm still looking for a solution. Sound on Ubuntu works so there has to be way to solve it on Sabayon..

pepe. found this forum post for ubuntu that might be worth a read, seems to fit your current situation, I would'nt worry about the updating alsa version part at top as you should already have the latest version but the rest makes for interesting reading with several solutions.

Nice work mate, sound is working.. :D
I added this line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-2

That's it and cheers for your help again, also karma +1..
