My log file is full of those errors, nearly a hundred on every boot, but my graphics are working fine - Compiz and spinning desktop cubes, video and everything

I decided that since it wasn't broken, I wouldn't fix it

I have two problems associated with error(I'm not 100% sure)
1) Sound Problem
2) Problem with USB ports

This does not happen with the xf86-ati-driver
xf86-ati-driver freezes Xorg

I have added a couple more already and will experiment further, but performance is good. I'll post my xorg.conf in a few days when I've tried some more parameters. Full screen video is now working nicely, so I'm now feeling even happier with the open-source Radeon driver.

Could you still post your xorg.conf and the parameters you used to increase the performance of the open-source radeon driver. It's just that with the new Sabayon 5 that awaits around the corner, there will probably be a new kernel and with each kernel update the chances of me getting getting lucky wit the fglrx driver get smaller and smaller. So I would try to use the Radeon driver and see if I could get descent performance. I don't care about compiz, but I do use some of the KDE desktop effects. Video playback should be smooth without desktop effects or even with if possible.

I have not been able to do any more optimisation since my last post, as I've been busy with other things. Anyway, below is my xorg.conf as it was when I made my previous post:

Code: Select all
Section "Module"
    SubSection  "extmod"
       Option    "omit xfree86-dga"
    Load    "i2c"
    Load    "ddc"
    Load    "vbe"
    Load    "dri"
    Load    "glx"
    Load    "synaptics"

Section "ServerFlags"
     Option    "AllowMouseOpenFail"    "true"

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier    "Generic Monitor"
    VertRefresh    43 - 60
    HorizSync      28 - 80

Section "Device"

    Identifier  "SabayonVga0"
    Driver      "radeon"
    #BusID    "PCI:01:00"
    #Option "RenderAccel" "on"
    #Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"
    #Option "BusType" "PCI"
    #Option "ColorTiling" "on"
    #Option "EnablePageFlip" "on"
    Option "UseEvents" "True"
Option "XAANoOffScreenPixmaps" "true"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"

Section "Screen"

    Identifier    "Screen 0"
    Device        "SabayonVga0"
    Monitor       "Generic Monitor"
    #Option       "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"

    DefaultDepth 24

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           8
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           16
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth           24
        ViewPort        0 0
        #Modes          "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666

Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier   "Main Layout"
    Screen 0    "Screen 0"
Option "AIGLX" "on"

Section "Extensions"
   Option "Composite" "Enable"

However, now that I have upgraded from KDE 4.2.4 to KDE 4.3.1 plus upgraded some other packages (xorg-x11, xorg-server, Radeon driver, etc.) -- all to the latest versions in Portage -- I am having trouble with AIGLX not running again. I expect it's the new versions of X.Org that are the problem, and I've not had a chance to investigate it yet. So I'm back without Compiz at the moment. But otherwise, the latest open-source Radeon driver and the latest X.Org stuff is playing along OK. Just the AIGLX and hence Compiz again not playing ball, but that would also affect the closed-source fglrx driver too.
