Are you using an ATI video card, by any chance? Video flickers with the ATI driver if you are also under Compiz-Fusion. You can either temporarily switch to Metacity or KWin window managers to watch videos, or change the video driver used by your media players to x11 or xv. hi, its been awhile sence i last posted. i tried making a .asoundrc file but it did absolutly nothing to chnage my sound situation. as of right now i can play music in amarok but the sound is choppy, and after about 10 songs the sample rate increases on it own until no sound plays at all until i restart the program. currently my alsa conf file looks like this:

# --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.18 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---

i found out my video card ati radeon 2400 pro uses the same driver in alsa for sound so could the problem be that my video card is stealing the use of the driver while im trying to use on board sound and thats why in certain media players i get the message "A_O audio output device is busy"? i havnt given up yet on trying to get my sound to work. listening to 10 songs is better then listeing to zero :) thanks for the help!

ok so i found this not sure if its useful:

[email protected] ~ $ ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 4 2009-02-06 07:23 controlC0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 8 2009-02-06 07:23 controlC1
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 3 2009-02-06 07:23 pcmC0D3p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 7 2009-02-06 07:23 pcmC1D0c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 6 2009-02-06 07:23 pcmC1D0p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 5 2009-02-06 07:23 pcmC1D1p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 9 2009-02-06 12:24 seq
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 2 2009-02-06 07:23 timer

ls -l /dev/dsp does nothing. shows nothing

i was trying to see what my device node was for my sound card. imguessing that control 0 is my ati video card and control 1 is my on board via sound. is /dev/dsp sapose to be my defualt sound device node. or is this fine.

hello ppl of sabayon linux, i finally managed to get my sound working but not effectivly i had to take out my video card to get the sound to work. so my video card was stealling default sound device. now that the sound works how would i go about making these settings defualt so when i place my card back in it dosnt revert back to the point i was at with no sound becuase the video card wants to steal sound. is there away to block hdmi? or away to make it soo that the video cards sound device dosnt show up at all? suggestions are always welcome thank you for the help.
