Nvidia 4800 SE Legacy Support?

Postby local.bin » Sun Jun 29, 2008 15:24

Hi all

I'm trying your latest livedvd and it does not appear to support my Nvidia 4800SE anymore?

I know nvidia has dropped support in its latest drivers, but it is still supported in its legacy drivers.

Does sabayon still include those legacy nvidia driver?

I've tried with legacy as a kernel boot option, but that does not work.

Thanks for any pointers.

edit: Ok, got it to boot with the xdriver=nv cheat, but still would like the legacy nvidia driver ;)
ps: I'm surprised you don't default to the nv driver if you know its nvidia but not a latest model.....

3.5 final. Less than a week away.

And yes. I'm on legacy nvidia (and legacy ATI) with compiz. Check to make sure the legacy driver still incorporates your card though.

Thanks for the reply.

I know the card supports compiz fine, but I can't find the legacy drivers for sabayon livecd/dvd.

1.0-96xx driver supports the following set of GPUs:
NVIDIA chip name Device PCI ID
GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE 0x0282

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp ... 43.05.html

How do I get the Opengl installer to find this driver for my card?

Thanks in advance

what does eselect opengl list (as root) give you? As for the correct drivers, for now just emerge them post-install and change xorg.conf if necissary - this will (hopefully) not have to be done on 3.5 final, and if it still has to be done it'll only have to be done once.
