ntfs Read/write woes

Postby cougaram » Wed Apr 09, 2008 16:15

Here's hoping someone can help me out with this. I am about to pull out my last remaining three hairs trying to mount my windows partition with read/write permissions.
I have installed ntfs-3g and fuse. Also downgraded the latest buggy HAL and can now at least see all partitions and CAN read/write to all except that &!%^@ ntfs partition.
Also, konqie shows the partition at /media/disk-2

Here's fdisk output:
Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x7fadf5b4

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5971 47962026 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 * 5972 19457 108326295 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 5972 6151 1445818+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6 6152 16595 83891395 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 16596 19457 22988983+ 83 Linux

Disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 GB, 500106780160 bytes

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00088936

/dev/sdb1 * 1 60801 488384001 b W95 FAT32

Disk /dev/sdc: 163.9 GB, 163928604672 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19929 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xa48ba48b

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 * 1 19929 160079661 7 HPFS/NTFS

Here is my fstab file:

UUID=1dc25ccf-1a5e-48f2-bc4e-c75d2ea8428f / ext2 defaults 1 1
UUID=149b54d6-de5a-4b52-9850-ecf604edd5e5 /home ext3 user_xattr 1 2
/dev/shm /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
UUID=0bb3f402-b387-48ae-87d7-0285878cd087 swap swap defaults 0 0

WTF??? This is the first time I have ever seen an fstab that looks like that. Can anyone supply me with a working fstab that will mount all my partitions with read and write permissions for root AND user cougar? Greatly appreciate any help.

Which versions of hal, hal-info, fuse and ntfs-3g have you got installed? See the following post for the versions I have got installed and which allow me to read and write to my external NTFS HDDs:

I'm not on my SL PC at the moment, but my fstab on that PC looks similar to yours.

YOU DA MAN, Fitzcarraldo!

I had to unmerge several updated packages and then I installed the same versions that you listed. VOILA! Problem solved! Thanks so much!
