Boots to command line only

Postby RepoOne » Mon Mar 10, 2008 22:49

I am running Sabayon Linux x86-64 Mini from a Live CD to get it started and installed. The only problem is that whenever I click start, it completes everything except starting the X server, and drops me to a root command line. If I type startx from this command line, I get the following message:
(EE) Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device PCI 2:0:0
(EE) Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.

I am running the following system:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
MSI NX8800GT 512MB Video Card

It would be great if I could get a reply quickly, for I am currently typing this from a lynx session.

There's a little bit in there about cheat codes you'll need to specify at boot with some nvidia cards - yours may very well be one of them. See if it works out for you.
