New DVD writer

Postby ashley194 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 12:37

Hi all!
Tried burning a DVD+R this morning in K3B v1.0.4 on SL 3.5 L1 at a speed of x16. Normally I'd burn OS's at x4, but as this was music I burnt at a higher speed. Once the blank DVD goes-in, my drive makes this awful knocking noise then K3B shows 'burn failure' My DVD drive is possibly on its last legs, as selecting a slower speed x8 or x4 it works alright. I tried burning on lightscribe media last year (as my drive can handle them), what a disappointment that was
Back to topic, any advice on the best DVD (IDE) writer that's fully compatible with Gentoo/Sabayon I can get?

Thanks :D
