HP dv6408nr LCD no longer supports dimming?

Post by chickpea » Tue Feb 05, 2008 19:18

After upgrading kernels to the gentoo-sources-2.6.24 kernel recently, kpowersave says that my LCD no longer supports dimming. I was previously able to dim the LCD screen on this laptop through Kpowersave, now no such luck. Any ideas how to fix this? Was it something I may have unwittingly disabled when I compiled my kernel (FYI, I disable all of the laptop extras in Kernel as they only apply to IBM, toshiba, Asus). Could that be an issue (although it wasn't in the past)? Any help is appreciated.

just a wild guess..but
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lowlevel Backlight controls (BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE)

This framework adds support for low-level control of the LCD
backlight. This includes support for brightness and power.

To have support for your specific LCD panel you will have to
select the proper drivers which depend on this option.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

this is a kernel option (obviously)..it does say you still need the proper drivers to utilize it though

Thanks I think I have all the lcd options enabled in the kernel, but I'll check it out again, just to make sure.

Thanks.
