Need opinions on whether this would run [Solved]

Post by Gzus666 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 4:34

Got someone who has an old Sony Vaio, P3 with 64mb of ram. Would this be able to run Sabayon mini with a fluxbox front end? He just wants to use it as an internet machine, nothing else, so it just has to be able to run Firefox at a good speed. Would like to give the guy a good Linux experience, and I especially like this distribution. If not, anyone have any other ideas?

Don't waste your time. Try one of the distros that cater for older hardware and low amounts of RAM, and you'll still give your friend a good Linux experience:

As it happens, the cover feature of the February 2008 issue (LXF102) of Linux Format magazine is "Resurrect your old PC" and it has a comprehensive article and coverdisc with VectorLinux (another good distro for older hardware) and Damn Small Linux:

Vector looks like a winner, but he is going to have to buy a stick of ram, cause Firefox isn't going to run for crap from the looks of things. Thanks for the help
