HP DV9000

I'm having trouble getting the following hardware to work on a brand new laptop for my wife.

Wireless:
Ethernet Controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

I tried the latest madwifi and ndiswrapper. I'm on 64-bit, and the Windows 64-driver is older than the 32-bit driver. I've seen some people say only the newer 32-bit driver works, not the older driver version. Madwifi claims to support this chip, and I can load ath_pci, but there is no ath0 device.

Webcam: (I presume it is this. I never bothered trying to install a webcam in any OS before, but my wife wants it for Skype)
Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller

Memory Stick Adapter (for the PSP)
Ricoh Co Ltd RSC592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter
Ricoh Co Ltd RSC822 Sd/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Adapter

Also, I have another question. The speakers and built-in mic worked out of the box, which is nice. However, we'd like to be able to plug in a headset for Skype. I can plug in a headset, but then the audio input and output are going both through the speakers/mic and headset at the same time. Is there a way I can create a udev rule or something to only use the headset when it is plugged in?

Thanks!

I may be wrong because I haven't checked in a while, but I don't think Skype has video for Linux.

The url has info on getting sound and webcam to work, unfortunately nothing on your wireless chipset, but hopefully that will narrow down what needs to be fixed.

Fair enough, and then perhaps the webcam isn't the biggest priority.

However, the wireless it. I'm not sure why madwifi claims to support this chipset, yet the driver loads fine, and no wireless devices show up if iwconfig.

Is there a step to create the ath0 device I'm missing?

Well it seems one of our users solved the wireless issues you have by upgrading the kernel

http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=8537&p=50462

Just in case ... genkernel instructions http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Upgrade_kernel_using_genkernel

also, check the output of dmsg, to see if that sheds any light on your present wireless woes.
