sound problem /dev/dsp can't be opened [Solved]

Post by Spacegrass » Mon Dec 17, 2007 19:37

ok when I boot up on live dvd or as root user my sound works no problems but when I boot in normal user I get a popup that says

sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (Permission denied)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device

I searched the forums and the wiki and didn't find anything pertaining to this subject sorry if I missed it

I am running Sabayon x86 1.1 professional (2.6.23-sabayon-r1) dual boot Windows XP on a Toshiba Satellite a105-s1712 it has the hda-intel-sb450 integrated sound card

any help would be great
