question pertaining to the nividia drivers used with sabayon

Postby MoonDoggie » Sun Dec 09, 2007 6:01

question: do the nvidia drivers that come with 3.4f automatically use nvidia cards to their full extant? my card has 559 mb shared, but if not used with nvidia's forceware divers, the amount of ram used will only amount to 256 i believe. i'd like to know so that if all ram is not being used, i can start looking for a way to unlock it all. problem is i dont know how on linux, but i'll find a way.

thanks for any replies in advance.

Hi,
try this command:
Code: Select all
 more /var/log/Xorg.0.log|grep LoadModule

if you have a line saying
Code: Select all
(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"

you are using the proprietary nvidia driver.

Btw. the driver to use is defined in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code: Select all
Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Videocard0"
    Driver    "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
...

Hope this helps
