8800GT Driver Problems

Postby darkfalcon » Mon Nov 26, 2007 21:43

Im using an XFX 8800GT (nvidia of course) and i cant get the drivers to work. Ive installed them as per nvidias website and they installed successfully, but they wont work. Ive also edited xorg.conf manually to include those drivers and they still wont work, i cant set my screen resolution above 1024x768 and the nvidia x configuration app says in not using the drivers.

why not...

Code: Select all
emerge -av nvidia-drivers

did you try it?
WINDOWS: Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, melt - upgrade it, charge it, pawn it, zoom it, press it, snap it, write it, get it, paste it, save it, load it, check it, plug it, play it, burn it, rip it, drag and drop it - stop. format it.

the result is
... done!
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.11-r10 USE="distribution dlloader" 7,679 kB [1]

no, these is not correct driver for 8800GT, driver installed by default. According Nvidia i must use beta driver 169.04 for these card. I used from Gigabyte
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp ... 69.04.html

How to install these driver without using "emerge" option sir ?

the problem is i can't entering desktop kde or gnome..... graphics like all freeze !
Before used these card, i used 88GTS too, no problem at all with 100.xx driver.

on booting, i see "unknown device" for my vga adapter.
Like i said that only nvidia-driver 169.04 beta driver for these card... http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp ... 69.04.html

no.
i found also the driver i told you on the nvidia-site according to my search criteria (beta or "normal" driver).
what happens if you do not boot into kde/gnome but in command-line and try to install the driver with emerge?
WINDOWS: Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, melt - upgrade it, charge it, pawn it, zoom it, press it, snap it, write it, get it, paste it, save it, load it, check it, plug it, play it, burn it, rip it, drag and drop it - stop. format it.
