Sound card/driver not detecting

Postby Tkamat » Sun Oct 07, 2007 14:01

Sabayon 3.4 is properly installed but can't detect sound driver and the following message appears on booting:
"Sound server informational message:
Error While initializing the sound driver:
device dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device."
Also I can't run compiz.

I have Dell laptop Latitude D630. It's configuration is:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7100 (1.8 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
1024 MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz
120 GB SATA Hard Disk
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

Please help.
What should I do?

Regards,

This portable is a real pain in the ***.
I had similar problems and I had to compile some source code to get this fixed.

I have it step by step on my blog (it says on debian but actually it should also work on other distros):
http://opensource-openmind.blogspot.com/2007/10/hda-intel-audio-on-dell-latitude-d630.html

Let me know if this helps
Dell Latitude D630 ==> you can ask me if you got problems with this portable
