Soo ... just registered here, as I stumpled across some things I wanted to answer ^^ :)

wolfden wrote:The thing I noticed when I did it, it doesn't --resume --skipfirst when a package fails. I don't know if there is a way to set that up yet or not.

This is not possible yet - but it is on the TODO list :)

Portato will not break anything :) ... emerging is handled by ... humm ... "emerge" - so: If your PC wants to eat your cat after an "emerge --update world" ... blame portage :)

@all: Thank you guys for the positive feedback here :) - This is a really great motivation ^^ ...

If you want a feature, or found a bug ... it would be great if you can leave a note in the Tracker :)

All I'd ask for right now is an icon. Unless of course there's one I missed.

Great job BTW, I'm enjoying it thus far. :)

For now

to make a desktop icon you need to do the following
Right Click on desktop and go to
---Create New
------Link to Application
A box comes up, on the General tab give it a name Portato and than on the Application tab where it say Command, enter:
kdesu -t -d --nonewdcop -u root -c portato -caption "%c" %i %m
or if u want the qt front end
kdesu -t -d --nonewdcop -u root -c portato qt -caption "%c" %i %m
click ok to have your icon on desktop, you can always change the icon too

note* for gnome users - simple change kdesu to gksu

Maybe someone can design an icon for Portato

Ok, here is my idea and there are many great artists in the forum too. I was thinking that when you sync you are sending out a request and in turn getting back an update portage list, so I came up with a circle idea. Something that is continuously in motion.

I would like to see a working CLI, where you have the ability to browse the packages above and use the CLI below instead of opening another terminal. I know it may seem redundant when you can simply click on things and have it done, but I really like my CLI. Everything in one box type of thing.
