Portato has nls (Native Language Support) now. If anyone is interested in doing some translations, tell me :). I will then write an HOWTO.

How much text do you need to translate ? I could do a translation to Slovak lang. but I do not have too much time.
There are 135 translateble entries at the moment (most are only words like "Emerge", "Packages" etc) ...
*quickly writes a translation howto* :)

Sooo... lots of changes in the current svn version (at least in "lines of code" :)):

- Now runs as user and forks its own root-process. (So portato uses now the firefox of the user - and not roots :))
- Added notifies when emerge finished / failed (you have to set the "libnotify"-useflag)

@raqua: nope - it does not hurry =). The translating manual (mostly copied from porthole ^^) can be found under /usr/share/doc/portato-9999/TRANSLATING - or (if you don't want to install the svn version): at http://portato.sf.net/TRANSLATING

If there are questions - ask them ;)

To bring some more structure in the releases and avoid having major bugs in them, I release a pre-version of the coming 0.8.5-release. This is only committed to the normal portato-overlay (so: not sunrise) - and I ask all interested guys here to get it and see whether there are any bugs :)

Q: Hell ya - the last release is no 2 weeks old. Why a new one.
A: I had some time in the last few days ;)

Changes to 0.8.1 (please do not beat if I repeat myself from other posts ;)):
  • added an uncaught exception dialog
  • i18n
  • new threading model for the emerge process  no more stuck processes (at least I hope)
  • added splash screen
  • added notifies  if you set the libnotify flag you get a small popup when emerge has finished (or failed)
  • portato now starts as normal user - and then relaunches with asking for the root password. This has the advantage, that your browser starts in the user's context and not root's. If you want portato to not ask for the password - use "portato -L"
  • now showing differences between "installed" and "enabled" useflags
  • improved terminal  no more "click into the terminal when you started another emerge" :) - should fix some hangups too

do "layman -S && emerge --sync && emerge -uav portato" to get the last version (should be 0.8.1 for you) ... anyway - could you just open a terminal and run "portato" as root and possibly pasting an error message?
