Occassional use of portage

Postby rsab » Tue Dec 08, 2015 14:30

It is generally recommended to stick to either equo/rigo or to portage in Sabayon. I generally use and would like to continue to use only equo for installing packages. But occassionally when a package is not available in Sabayon repo, what is the best way to use portage? Can I simply use following commands:
Code: Select all
emerge --sync
emerge opera   (to install)
emerge --unmerge opera     (to remove)

I should probably update the system through equo only and not use "emerge -auDN world"?

I am sure equo will know what is installed through portage (emerge). Is it a problem if I install with portage and remove with equo? Thanks for your help.

This topic is thoroughly covered in the wiki.

No, it will not. You have to notify Entropy of the stuff installed via Portage with
Code: Select all
equo rescue spmsync

No, it's absolutely OK.

Thanks for clarifying most points. What about:
I should probably update the system through equo only and not use "emerge -auDN world"?
