Upgrading Portage Packages

Post by rdnetto » Sun Mar 08, 2015 9:10

Hi,
I recently figured out how to upgrade Portage packages when using Entropy, and I thought others might find it useful.
I've also added a section to the wiki.

Code: Select all

emerge -avuN $(equo query revisions 9999 -q)
--deep is intentionally omitted, as it seems to break things by trying to upgrade systemd, etc.

Great tip, thanks!
I manage the packages installed via Portage as a set placed in /etc/entropy/sets/.
That way you have more control over what is installed as you can define the slot, overlay or the tag.
The upgrade is as easy as (so far there are no conflicts):

Code: Select all

emerge -auN @myset

Interesting. Is there an easy way to automatically add packages to the set, or do you have to manually maintain the list?

I maintain the list manually.
But your equo query tip is a good start to create a set.
