Mixing Entropy and Portage with Global USE Flags

Postby rdnetto » Fri Nov 22, 2013 20:08

Hi,
I use entropy for most of my packages, and portage only when I need a package not in entropy or with different use flags.
I work with Python 3.3 a lot, and have found it necessary to add a lot of packages to /etc/portage/package.use/... with the python_targets_python3_3 flag. e.g. pip, scipy, etc.
The wiki says to never edit /etc/make.conf.
Is there a safe way to set python_targets_python3_3 as a global USE flag for portage that will not affect entropy?
Thanks in advance.

I also need python3.3 a lot and I'm tired of editing the portage configs. Why does python3 does not receive some love from sabayon + entropy? What's the reason that there are almost no precompiled packages with python3 support? Would love to see this activated out of the box.

hmmm, not sure why wiki says to never edit make.conf. I use to mix entropy and portage together with a custom make.conf. If worried, just make a backup copy of the make.conf if you ever need to restore it.

for use Portage, In Sabayon as in Gentoo, editing make.conf is necessary.
