SL developers split sabayon overlay into two new overlays

Post by Fitzcarraldo » Sun Nov 13, 2011 18:30

lxnay has made an announcement in the SL blog on the Home page, but I have posted my own slant in an article: Sabayon Linux developers split the Portage sabayon overlay into two new overlays.

Thanks for the post, I have been playing with this and have some problems. Hoping you can give me some idea on how to cure.
What I have done is a fresh gentoo install using current portage 2.2, am fully updated , my favorite apps installed, kde, xchat, xbmc etc... and is working as expected.
My goal is to convert it to sabayon, if it breaks is *my* fault :mrgreen:

Problem is, I cant get past this error

Code: Select all

equo update
invalid filesystem encoding ANSI_X3.4-1968, must be UTF-8.
Make sure to set LC_ALL, LANG, LANGUAGE to valid UTF-8 values.
Please execute:
  LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /usr/bin/equo update
Cannot automatically recover from this.
>>  @@ Repositories synchronization ...
I run the command as suggested, it completes with no errors, but does not help.
Running the command env produces this

Code: Select all

# env

I have re emerged glibc, it does not help, emerge glibc works but entropy does not see it, locale-gen works but entropy does not respond.

Think I am missing a simple step, just out of ideas to try.

Hi

try this :

create /etc/env.d/02locale file and edit this with your favourite text editor

and set :

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8

save and exit ; run

Code: Select all

# env-update
maybe this fix the prob . :?

YES! that did work. The error message did go away, I then found I had no repositories in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.
I added them and equo update worked.

Now repositories must be configured in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/

see *.example and README files in repositories.conf.d folder
