Swapping portage with paludis

Postby KyroMaster » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:03

Even with entropy as the default package manager there are users who use sabayon with portage to get access to the newest apps.
As paludis will AFAIK replace portage in gentoo anyway, could it be used by default in sabayon?
Then there would be 2 state-of-the-art package managers compatible with each other which could both be supported.

nothing is going to replace portage

Paludis is simply just another choice of a package manager same as pkgcore is also and yes you can use it with SL. Pick a package manager of your choice and stick with it. We just can't support paludis and paludis won't support us either, so if things break or you have problems, you are on your own.

i made some tests with paludis in sabayon... it works, but i reccoment that you use atesting partion, not you regular sabayon... install a testinsg platarform.
