problem with make.config file as follows....

i have a very limited understanding of linux
i need some help resolving this
i have searched forums, googled, etc,
and i cant figure it out..

can you help?

i am trying to migrate completely to linux
i push paper documents and am online for a living,
so the help is really important.

version please, also you'll have to run an emerge --sync before you install anything, and as a final note emerging is something only to do post-install - it'll fill up your ram during the compilation if you do it in a live environment.

i am installed
dual monitors are functioning in twinview,
dell 5110cn color laser prints

i just get this message everytime i want to emerge something new,
like thunderbird.

so post your make.conf file for us to take a look at.

or look at line 35 in make.conf to see what the problem is.

right, just because you may not know what we're talking about:

Your make.conf is a file of configurations that portage looks at whenever you use emerge to install something - it determines what processor you have, what language you use, what functionality you want stuff to have, and a whole load of other goodies. It's located in /etc, opening a terminal and typing "cat /etc/make.conf" will be sufficient to bring it up.

you have that twice? Remove the bottom one as it is wrong
are you sure you didn't edit it as that is not normal for a default install
