How to log portage messages after an emerge??[Solved]

Postby christophocles » Thu Dec 06, 2007 13:10

Frequently after emerging a package, portage will show a list of messages that give further instructions for specific packages. Are these messages logged anywhere? I have checked /var/log/emerge.log and /var/log/portage/* and they do not appear anywhere. I turned on portage logging in make.conf but it seems to record only the actual build, and not the post-build messages. How can I get portage to save these valuable tidbits of information so that I can actually view them later???

This would be especially useful in cases where an emerge script fails and auto-restarts using emerge --resume --skipfirst.

I have started running my emerges inside of screen with a scrollback of 100,000+ lines so that I can go back and see WTF was going on, but this seems like a stupid waste of memory and often isn't even enough scrollback. I'm not about to set screen to a billion lines of scrollback cause there HAS to be a better way. Please Help!
