Mythtv question

Post by thawk21 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 0:21

I am trying to install MythTV so i can use my TV tuner. I am having trouble getting it installed though. I am in portato and trying to "emerge" mythtv and it just keeps saying it couldn't download Mythtv. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I am new to Gentoo so I don't even know if that is the correct way to install programs. I am more used to Debian OS's. So if anyone can help me out that would be great. Thanks

Moved to proper forum

have you

Code: Select all

emerge --sync && layman -S
you need to do that so you can update your package list before installing packages

Did you check out the wiki? it's fairly detailed:

Hope that helps!

Thanks I didnt see it in the WIKI. I tried that and got all the way to where it wants you to set up a password for mysql and it wont accept anything. And when I try to just skip that and go to start the backend it says files not found. So then I decided I would just try portato again and it is giving me this error:

!!! Error: the x11-drivers/xf86-video-via package conflicts with another package;
!!! the two packages cannot be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.

Any help would be appreciated.

first, look at the error message, it's telling you exactly what to do.

second, do you need x11-drivers/xf86-video-via? If not uninstall them

third, have you cleaned your /etc/make.conf file?

Again sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you clear out that file? And also I don't even know what the x11-drivers/xf86-video-via file is, so i will try removing it. Thanks a lot.
