How to restore installed package to database?

Postby cyrwyn » Mon Oct 29, 2007 18:19

Shortly after I installed 3.4 mini I emerged slocate. It's installed and working, but doesn't show up in equery, eix, etc., although all the files are in /var/db and /usr/portage. How could this have happened? What command should I use?

Have you done the following?:

Code: Select all
# update-eix

update-eix didn't work to find slocate. What next? I could just remerge it, but there should be another way to restore it.

Strange. Don't know why you can't see it. Only thing I can think of doing (and I don't know that it would make any difference, but it won't do any harm trying either) is:

Code: Select all
# emerge -C slocate
# emerge -C eix
# emerge --sync
# layman -S
# emerge eix
# update-eix
# emerge slocate
# update-eix
# eix slocate

and see what happens.
