After emerging the new ati-driver and reboot I only get a black screen instead of the login screen. Is there any way to remove the new driver, because there´s no way for me to open the console. I don´t want to make a full install of Sabayon. Any hints would be great. :study:

Try booting to single user mode, then uninstall the driver.

I was not successful with booting in single user mode, made a new install. Now I´ll try to install Ati-drivers again, but this won´t work : ln -s /usr/lib32/opengl/ati/lib/libGL.so /usr/lib32/
I´m running sabayon 32bit system on an ASUS Notebook :(

Hi Nemesis, I don´t want to do another mistake, can you please explain what to do in a whole sentence? I´m relative new to linux especially sabayon...

Suzani, you forgot to write

ln -s /usr/lib32/opengl/ati/lib/libGL.so /usr/lib32/

I suppose Nemesis was telling you to do
Code: Select all
ln -s /usr/lib32/opengl/ati/lib/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib32/

and
Code: Select all
ln -s /usr/lib32/opengl/ati/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib32/

This should work, don't know by myself 'cause I'm running 64-bit version.
Anyway, this driver is far far to be perfect, in fact I expected more bug and errors than I deserve as an Ati customer :D
KDM not starting, symlink not created, video flikering and I've read some users got the "funny AMD - testing purposes only" watermark on their screen.
My personal advice is to stay with 8.40 stable branch, until you know what you're doing.

Oh, here's a funny thing.
I've read about this on gentoo's forum.
a user tried to run strace on amdcccle and here's what he got:
Code: Select all
open("c:\\tmp\\lbthreshold.txt", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

AMD's developers are a bit confused... :?

ati-drivers 8.42
X 1.3.0
Mobility X700

I just get an error about not having texture from pixmap.

I guess I'll wait till the next release of the ati drivers.

Gerald

I get this error too, but after 20 or more seconds fusion-icon starts, if i kill fusion-icon and re-run it, everything goes fine...
Have you tried making symlinks as we said above?

The symlinks are done. I'll see if re-starting fusion-icon will work for me. It seems weird that it works for you.

I agree with you, but I suppose this happens 'cause emerald is not yet fully initialised when Compiz start.
In facts if I set Compiz to use Kwin instead of emerald, I don't need to restart fusion-icon.
Everything works just the way it should from the beginning.
Let me know if it works for you.

Are you also expecting video flickering in avi video?

Uff....re-installation NR 100: Emerged system, emerged also ati-drivers, everything works, but know I don´t have an acceleration manager, also compiz is up to date, but I even can´t run the settings manager. Now I don´t know where to find the mistake...I hope sabayon and ati-drivers and compiz will be improved in the next releases. also portage needs to be improved, it is not easy to keep sabayon up to date and working...but I like it, and it teaches me a lot
