tried it today in more than one way.

the same post in 4 boards...no solution

edit:added this to package.use: net-im/bitlbee oscar

does changing it from ocar help at all?

Im not familiar with this program at all, you look at gentoo forums to see if others having issues?

the stable version compiles here

no, will try your other suggestion now. portage tells me that 1.0.1 is available.

it did the job! the new version is installed. portage always told me about bitlbee-1.0.1 and that didn't work.
it took me 3 hours (ok, i had dinner and talked to my girlfriend while i searched the web).
