gcc-4.2.0 never ending compile

Postby xt600 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 14:00

Why is it that every time that I run a system update "emerge -e system" or "revdep-rebuild" gcc-4.2.0 spends about four hours rebuilding? Does gcc have to rebuild every time? I had 133 packages to rebuild and it spent most of the time rebuilding gcc. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance!

gcc-4.2.X and gcc-4.3.X have lots of lots of problems. Take a look at the regressions. There are too many of them and their number hasn't sufficiently reduced since last year. I believe that you have either encountered an already existing gcc bug, or you have found a new one. In this case you should post it. I cannot help you more since I am not an expert in Sabayon or even Gentoo. I hope the other guys be more helpful with those issues.

It's because of your use flag that you have in your make.conf:

remove that and it shouldn't keep rebuilding it
