Compiz-Fusion no longer working after flash install

Postby alexis » Thu Sep 27, 2007 12:04

Yesterday I installed flash on the machine, first I installed nspluginwrapper following the instructions here:

viewtopic.php?f=54&t=10531&p=61293&hilit=flash#p61293

then read about the latest flash beta being probably the responsible of my problem so I downgraded to a previous version and flash started working fine again but now Compiz-Fusion will not work, if I open the acceleration manager and select AIXGL it does nothing, the compiz fusion icon is gon. if I type fusion, compiz starts but it affected all the graphical configuration in KDE. BTW when I downgraded and uninstalled etarch and schedutils I was using Kuroo

the card is an MSI NVIDIA 7300gt, I am not at home right now so I can't post the conf file, will do when I get back home tonight. What is really strange is that compiz can actually get to work in 3d, some stuff like the pager change without apparent reason but the 3d effects are there. I wonder what broke this time lol

Is only thing I have different, rest you have uncommented properly.

Did you update python by chance? What version is your python? Try updating Compiz?

hi man, first of all, thanks for all your help, you have always answered all my doubts, I read the post you made on another thread about python, I believe one of the packages I installed also updated python.... so now I am trying to update it using python-update -i, however, now I get this message:

Calculating dependencies \
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r1 (masked by: package.mask)
- x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r2 (masked by: package.mask)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "x11-drivers/xf86-video-mga-1.4.7" [ebuild])

I uninstalled the xf-86-video-mga package but still get this same error, I tried looking for this entry in usr/portage/profile/packages.mask but cannot find it, any ideas on how can I unmask it.

ok that will be the source of the problem than.

Do you have xorg masked?

See this thread about Nvidia and xorg:

yeah I saw it, but if I unmask that version of xorg then I wouldnt I have problems with the video? perhaps I could just downgrade python to 2.4
