If you did in this order, the problem is clear:

the correct order:
1. upgrady python to 2.5
2. python-updater -i
3. revdep-rebuild -X

This should be it - there should be no more additional steps necessairy ...

anyways you could try:
Code: Select all
emerge -1av pygtk pygobject pycairo
--- but running python-updater is the preferred way

Reinstalled 3.4f did an emerge --sync and layman -S then followed your steps 1 - 3 and still no portato. Kuroo works. I am trying to do a system update, will see if it works after that!

I ended up removing portato as I could not get it fixed. The interface is a bit strange so even if it worked I still use terminal + root + emerge to do most things but I can see this as causing a few issues for anyone else. Works fine in 3.4 mini.
Weard only 2 of us had this problem.

Very very strange ...

if it even is not going to work after python-updater ...
try this:
Code: Select all
emerge -1av cairo pycairo pygobject pygtk

When this (longer) install is finished look, what python -c "import gtk" returns ...

Btw: What version of gtk+ are you using?

I switched over to the 3.4 mini last night after total frustration with the PAM issue. Portato works fine under the mini! I will try it out and give my unofficial newbie opinion on it.

BTW, I am glad that I get to learn emerge but I think gentoo needs a good graphical installer like Debian has with synaptic. Maybe portato will be the one?

I'm glad that you made it work =) ... dunno what was broken =)

And I think, if there were only one choice of package manager frontend, it would not be Gentoo =).
