Compiz-0.5.2

Postby ashley194 » Tue Aug 14, 2007 20:36

I noticed on http://gentoo-portage.com that Compiz 0.5.2 was released today, here's the link http://gentoo-portage.com/x11-wm/compiz . Is there any easy way of upgrading to the latest 'n' greatest, ie. emerge -u beryl :D I know this might have been answered elsewhere, just want some clear & cut advice.

Thanks :D

Well you can follow this for the most part
http://www.sabayonlinux.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9352

You don't need to modify the ebuild, but you will need to uninstall everything, delete the git-sources and than add the xeffects overlay and emerge compiz. I remove the sabayon overlay before installing it tho, just to make sure I get the right ebuilds and than delete the xeffects overlay and than readd the sabayon overlay.

After shutting down compiz-fusion & changing into kwin, does all that code have to be entered in a terminal as root :? After that, will compiz-fusion start automatically following a reboot :? So many questions I know, just trying to fix it in my head.

Thanks wolfden :D

Followed your advice, but now can't seem to start compiz-fusion at all  Any thoughts, after a reboot?

Thanks!

I still have no idea how to start compiz-fusion, so it's a case of backing-up my /home dir (31GB), wiping the lot & starting from scratch. As all my window handles have disappeared :?

It should auto start like it always did before

What is your window decorator?
what is your window manager?

All working great here

i went to update compiz-fusion just there now
checked overlay with eix, then added the overlay
within the few minutes i did this fusion-icon-0.5.2 has been removed from the overlay
so eix says its there but the only ebuild i can emerge is fusion-icon-9999

i updated the overlay in eix and its gone there now too

so maybe there was a problem with it and it was pulled

worst is i remove all of compiz-fusion before i went to update

i'll just have to wait and see

Hi wolfden
After booting-up this morning, I still find myself in kwin. Normally my window decorator in compiz-fusion is emerald, but when I run the command 'compiz --replace' I loose my title bar. That's the very top bar, where the maximise/minimise buttons are, making dragging windows pretty tough
