Needs to migrate from Mate to Gnome/Cinammon or kde

Post by jaguar1637 » Mon Feb 03, 2020 10:03

I just installed the latest release of Mate desktop => Sabayon_Linux_19.03_amd64_MATE.iso

I am experiencing difficuties with this release installed on a VirtualBox VM server (upon

First : to setup the keyboard.
- I got a french keyboard, so I put in /etc/conf.d/keyboardmaps the value "fr"
of course, when I launch the Keyboard system tool, I can add a specific keyboard
but, I am not able to fetch correct assignments with some keys. ;(

Secondly : Now, becoz, I feel quite despite of the first issue in this release (I am used since more than 10 years in Sabayon), I want to migrate to a new graphical environment for 2 reasons.
A) I need more features in Menu to deal with...
B) I need the protocol RDP working, to be able to access on my VM from anywhere. I installed the freerdp, but I can not use this protocol

I do not remember the commands to directly install Cinnamon or KDE

Can you help me ?

Well, there is no longer a package set for kde or kde plasma that I can find, but there is a meta package.

kde-plasma/plasma-meta should install everything required to run kde plasma (but not all the kde applications, in case you aren't looking for that).
