Gnome-Shell Upgrade Trouble

Post by flexoron » Fri Sep 20, 2019 0:46

Revision: 4015
Gnome-Shell: 3.32

Gnome-Shell has been upgraded this time and crashed after gdm login process:
systemd-coredump[1788]: Process 1764 (gnome-shell) of user 1000 dumped core
and gdm login screen starts again.

It turned out that an extension caused the issue.

Solution: Switch to emergency shell. Disable all extensions.

Code: Select all

Ctrl-Alt F2
# cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell
# mv extensions ~
# mkdir extensions
Login again, gnome-shell should start now.

Now activate extensions again one by one:

Code: Select all

# cd ~/extensions
# mv extension1 ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
Login and see whether extension1 works
Next extension

Code: Select all

# mv extension2 ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
and so on.

This way I found a troublemaker: extensions @
Download new version for gnome-shell 3.32,
unzip and

Code: Select all

# mv ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/[email protected]
