Performance of KDE 3D acceleration?

Post by msdobrescu » Wed Nov 07, 2018 20:26

Hello,

I use KDE and LibreOffice. I have some presentations to do. I have noticed very bad effects performance in transitions animations, like bad flickering.
Is this a known issue? Is this related to nVidia drivers? I have a 560 Ti video card. If is this the reason, did anybody manage to have a correct nVidia drivers setup? Is there a list of nVidia cards known to work properly and have a decent 3D rendering in KDE?

Thanks in advance.

I not have NVIDIA in this my computer, but i have in mind that for the 560 Ti video board, the latest versions of the NVIDIA proprietary drivers can work well

You put the nouveau driver in the blacklist, or remove the package of nouveau?

Well, if you ask me, nVidia drivers are a big mess concerning the setup. Definitely, something is missing purely in configuration, like a symlink or so.
Proof is Celestia, it won't work with nVidia unless I provide path to the libs. Seemingly others too.

I've switched to a 1060/6GB already.
LibreOffice seems having issues with the effects.
But, I have a big problem with KDE, generally, and I think is a bug, but I don't know how to nail it.
In short, I have pretty many widgets: a clock, a weather applet, a CPU load applet, a memory load applet, a network monitor applet.
I also use a wallpaper changing at 5 minutes repo, of about 6000 images.
After few days, sometimes tow or three, the desktop freezes or the applets refresh at few seconds. Eventually monitor go black for a second from time to time, flickers occur, even desync sometimes, materialized as a line that appear for a second, but don't expect to be a one-pixel line, it's kind of analogue line as in the past cathode tubes.
To make it worse, I can run a simple snow wallpaper from here: https://github.com/IvanSafonov/plasma-wallpaper-snow, based on QT particles, this freezes KDE after a day at most and beyond recovery.
