Cinnamon 3.8.8 – No module named 'pam' [Solved]

Post by andreios » Thu Sep 27, 2018 21:18

Run into a problem with the new cinnamon version.

Code: Select all

$ cinnamon-settings
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/modules/cs_user.py", line 4, in <module>
    import pam
ImportError: No module named 'pam'

During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/cinnamon-settings.py", line 607, in <module>
    window = MainWindow()
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/cinnamon-settings.py", line 243, in __init__
    for module in modules:
  File "/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/modules/cs_user.py", line 7, in <module>
    import PAM
ImportError: No module named 'PAM'

I found a way as it seems.

pypam was already installed, but only with python 2-7.

Code: Select all

dev-python/pypam
     Available versions:  0.5.0-r3 {PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5 python3_6"}
     Installed versions:  0.5.0-r3(08:47:37 AM 06/15/2015)(PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 -python3_3")
     Homepage:            http://www.pangalactic.org/PyPAM
     Description: Python Bindings for PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules)
I have installed it with python 3 targets using emerge

Code: Select all

dev-python/pypam
     Available versions:  0.5.0-r3 {PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5 python3_6"}
     Installed versions:  0.5.0-r3(06:03:01 PM 09/29/2018)(PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_4 python3_5 -python3_6")

For what ever reason the package cinnamon-desktop was not upgraded to 3.8.1 (in daily). I have just upgraded it with emerge to this version. Had to set python_single_target to python 3.5 for this.
Every thing seems to run fine now.
