Still broken. It shows exactely the same behaviour. glxinfo doesn't work in the startx terminals :-(

With opengl=nvidia It shows several times:

Xlib: extension GLX missing on display ":0".

With opengl=xorg-x11 it shows:

Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

(Hint: The Laptop has a nvidia and a intel graphics card)... :bom:

Also strange: Everytime i type systemctl restart sddm there is a promt for the passphrase of my root partition and the encrypted swap partition even though these partitions are already present in /dev/mapper

I really think the problem is your graphics drivers. Plasma 5 requires compositing in order to run, which would explain why no DM could launch it.

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with laptops that have dual intel and nVidia cards. I know you can get them working in concert via bumblebee, but the issue you're dealing with comes before that.

What nVidia card does it have? It might not be supported by the latest nVidia driver, so you might need to install a different one.

Which nvidia-userspace do you have installed?

Code: Select all

$ equo search nvidia-userspace
Note that there are 4 different ones, because nvidia keeps dropping support for older cards. You might need to switch a different (older) version.

In your first post (xorg.conf) you are using radeon Driver. I totally lost you now. (maybe try to remove xorg.conf?)
On a nvidia/Intel system eselect opengl should be set to xorg-X11

If I run X -configure for the nvidia card as driver "nv" is set. For the intel card "intel".

you tried to boot in safe mode? it will just load open source (FOSS) drivers. If you have optimus technology system should boot normally on intel, and then, upon user request with the discrete card

The upgrade from last weekend resolved the problem for the Thinkpad. The other laptop still has problems.

@mudler: What do you mean with "save mode"? I just remember this option while booting the liveDVD but not for the installed sabayon linux system.

i also ahve the same problem with my hp eleitebook with the intel graphic
sometines xorg start sometines it sys permissons denied on the /dev/dri ... device

then i have to wait login as root and systemctl restart sddm
i think systemd ist too fast for the intel drm driver to init or so.
