Do NOT use sabayon-weekly with sabayon-limbo!

Remove any third-party applets, desklets or extensions.
It's entirely your problem now.

Did a clean install today with the following image: 'Sabayon_Linux_13.04_amd64_GNOME.iso'. Upgrading with repository 'weekly' and installing Cinnamon resulted in the same problem, changing repository to 'limbo' and upgrading also resulted in Cinnamon not launching - no other change was made!
Hardware is nothing special: Intel Core 2 Duo P8700, Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset ...

The latest version in sabayon-limbo (cinnamon-1.8.8-r1~1) is back working.

Things are getting better again! Todays 'limbo' update brought a working Cinnamon-Desktop back. Some little issues left:

- background-image is controlled by two different dconf-settings (it differs between 'normal' and 'expose' mode). One setting is 'org->gnome->desktop->background' the other is 'org->cinnamon->background'. Only the last one is configurable with cinnamon-settings ...
- cinnamon-settings complains about missing modules:
Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ cinnamon-settings
Failed to load module <module 'cs_info' from '/usr/lib64/cinnamon-settings/modules/cs_info.pyc'>

Unfortunately, the Cinnamon development is almost stuck (not dead yet) and there are breakages all over, GNOME 3.8 is 4 months old and they didn't even catch up with the needed changes. There are huge patches distros apply to get it barely working...

Many thanks for the 'fix'. I had no idea Cinnamon was in such bad shape, it's not my primary DE but I have always had a lot of time for the project. Time to re-visit the blog and look around to see how things are really progressing (or not).
