Sabayon MATE. IMPORTANT consolekit in upgrades. [Solved]

Postby albfneto » Thu Jul 04, 2013 17:57

I found that after all upgrades, in the MATE Desktop, the Menu Entry: " System" , "Switch off", MATE no more have the option to switch the computed off.

This was because no more package "consolekit" exists in my entropy database:

Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ equo s consolekit
>>  @@ Buscando...
>>  Palavras-Chave:  consolekit
>>  Encontrado:      0 entrada

Consolekit daemon is necessary for switch off in MATE. See details:

http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=315

Solution:

I re-installed consolekit using Portage, but without changing udev and/or systemd dependencies:

Code: Select all
# emerge --sync
$ emerge -s consolekit
$ emerge -p consolekit
 # emerge -av --nodeps sys-auth/consolekit

then, the comp. switcher" MATE panel button, works well:

Then, you need to re-add the service "consolekit" in the RC boot level, or in the systemd.

Is an strange issue, because i see that the package is in the entropy database>

https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=consolekit&x=0&y=0

why it was not more "visible" in my system?

Sabayon migrated away from consolekit, we now use logind. However, MATE should work just fine with it, I'll have a look.

Can you test the mate-power-manager package I pushed to sabayon-limbo?

I tested.

at first, i updated and upgraded Sabayon. The package mate-power-manager and their deps were installed, normally.

I removed the service consolekit from the run level boot, and reboot the computer:

the icon for "switch off", was working (even when consolekit process was stopped, but the package consolekit was installed)

I configured the Icon "switch off" in the mate-power-manager (prior, in the old version, it was configured in the same manner!)

i removed the consolekit package.... and reboot the computer.

Now the Icon for " switch off" no more present. See this screenshot. You may see also, that the button is configured for "switch off" in the mate-power-manager.

Resuming, still remaining depedency of the presence of the package consolekit installed.

I don't normally use Mate but I have it installed on two machines. Both AMD 64. One has not been updated for about two weeks but the one I use all the time is fully up to date and my usual DE is KDE (I have most of the DE's installed on it). Both have kernel 3.9. Both are desktop machines.
I had noticed the removal of consolekit and also noticed today's single upgrade of mate-extra/mate-power-manager-1.6.1 so booted into Mate. The switch off and reboot icons are both there and working.

SOLVED

During my tests, i see that, when the package kshutdown is installed, it re-install between the deps., the package sabayon-version, and this remove the package consolekit but the "switch off" button no more removed.
Even after the removal of the consolekit service from their run level, all works.
consolekit no more needed.
