KDE 4.10.3, FYI

Postby msdobrescu » Thu May 23, 2013 11:25

Hello,

I've recently updated Sabayon, and that brought me KDE 4.10.3.
During the upgrade, the KDE environment become unstable, the wallpaper was replaced by a white background, the KDE panels showed some "x"-es and stopped displaying their stuff, the main task bar disappeared.
Also the sound was gone.
After a restart everything seemed to be back to normal, except for the task bar, which was at position -153 on the screen.
As effect, it was not reachable. I have fixed that after editing the ~/.kde4/... files. Now, everything is good (except for one plasmoid which I had to reset).

I think all the crashes were due to a massive KDE refactoring. Anyway, this is my feeling.
Eventually, KDE looks good and seems stronger and lighter, more responsive and polished.

What do you think?

Regards,
Mike

I have the same problem here, after a fresh installation of sabayon 13.04 I did an upgrade that installed KDE 4.10.4.
Moreover all non-KDE applications (chrome, dropbox, skype) are missing in the tray.
Someone else had these problems or only us?

It seems there is a problem when it is upgraded from 4.10.2 to at least 4.10.3.
I have upgraded from 4.10.3 to 4.10.4 and had no problem.
I'm still convinced that KDE 4.10.3 and above are rock steady.

BTW, considering the large amount of packages upgraded lately, in the at least 2 or 3 upgrade sets, I think that somebody works hard on Sabayon in order to have the latest software. Thank you, you all are great! This makes Gentoo and Sabayon unique!

I have not had the same problem. But, I only run KDE. Is there a chance you're also running another DE?
