unable to switch to openGL in Kwin [Solved]

Postby cmost » Sun May 12, 2013 14:34

Something has changed recently but I'm not sure what. In the past, I was able to configure Kwin to use openGL for Kwin with Qt graphics system set to native. Now, if I try to use openGL I'm asked if I want to accept the new configuration but when I go back and check, it's still set to XRender. Additionally, some Kwin effects like cube no longer work but wobbly windows and other effects work fine. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I am happy to provide config files or terminal output but I'm not sure where to start. My specs are in my signature. Thanks in advance.

Hi! Try to check eselect opengl. I've seen on some installation that the opengl implementation is changed after updates.

Anyway a tip: from my experience i can say that often raster is far better than native.

My video card is nvidia Quadro 600

Nevertheless, here is the output you requested:

Code: Select all
[email protected] /usr $ eselect kernel list
Available kernel symlink targets:
  [1]   linux-3.8.0-sabayon
  [2]   linux-3.9.0-sabayon *

Code: Select all
[email protected] /usr $ eselect bzimage list
Available kernel targets:
  [1]   kernel-genkernel-x86_64-3.8.0-sabayon *
  [2]   kernel-genkernel-x86_64-3.9.0-sabayon

This is strange because uname -a yields:
Code: Select all
[email protected] /usr $ uname -a
Linux cmost.sabayon64 3.9.0-sabayon #1 SMP Sat May 11 06:33:50 UTC 2013 x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Code: Select all

Hi all, after the raft of updates incoming (183) on Tuesday, May 14, which included an updated KDE, the problem is now resolved and all Kwin effects are working as they were before. :D
