.Xmodmap file & .xinitrc file problem [Solved]

Postby ocheung » Wed Jan 02, 2013 16:00

I use mouse with left hand . So I changed .Xmodmap file like this:
Code: Select all
pointer = 3 2 1 4 5 6 7

but, each system started, the file doesn't execute, the mouse button doesn't change.
I already install xmodmap package.
That problem one.

I use dwm. So write some in .xinitrc.
Code: Select all
while true; do
  xsetroot -name "$( date +'%F %I:%M %uthDAY %WthWEEK')"
  sleep 60
done &

feh --bg-scale image/wallpaper/porsche_boxster_s-wide.jpg
fcitx &

but, evach login , .xinitrc file doesn't execute.
the desktop background doesn't change with my set picture. The time information no show on top.
That problem two.

I type
Code: Select all
xmodmap .Xmodmap
source .xinitrc

for each after login .

Can solve these problem? THX.

.xinitrc is not executed if you log-in using a graphical DM rather than using startx from the command line. You need to do it differently if you're using a DM. See Multimedia Keys for details.

The method of your given page, are doesn't work too.
Thx.

The /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc has:

Code: Select all
......
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/Xmodmap
......
if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
  xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi
......
if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
  xmodmap -e "$usermodmap"
fi
......

This is a part of default content of /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.
And each system start, doesn't apply .Xmodmap or /etc/X11/xinit/Xmodmap .

There are several different procedures given in that Gentoo Wiki article, depending on the situation. If the user is using a DM then they don't use a file ~/.xinitrc (delete it, as it can cause problems if you are using a DM) or a file xinitrc. Which of the procedures given in that article did you use? What are the contents of /etc/conf.d/xdm on your machine? How are you launching DWM?

thx for reply.
I use kdm. And tyied your given page with KDM method . Doesn't work.
About DWM, all write in .xinitrc. Set time and date , background picture and start a input method .

But, as I mentioned before, KDM does not use ~/.xinitrc, which is why you are having to source it manually after you login. KDM sources ~/.xprofile (if it exists) each time you login. What do you have in ~/.xprofile?

That method was also in the Gentoo Wiki article I referenced in an earlier post.
