Openbox + Cairo-dock

Post by wokko » Mon May 23, 2011 6:11

Hi all,

I'm running Openbox with cairo-dock, everything is running fine apart from trying to get the logout icon on the dock to work.

I have tried to configure it with the command /sbin/halt but when I click on it, it does nothing.

Has anyone got the icon to work or has anyone got any ideas for a solution.

Thank you

hi there,

commands like halt, shutdown -h now, reboot or poweroff just work fine,
the're all in de /sbin folder,
Except you have to be root to make such commands.

Code: Select all

sudo /sbin/halt
or

Code: Select all

sudo su /sbin/halt
if that doesn't work, and it keeps asking for a password,
you can edit the sudoers file (enter "visudo" as root),
and uncomment the Wheel group without a password, or add yourself to the sudoers file:
example:

Code: Select all

wokko ALL=(ALL) ALL
place that under section "# User privilege specification"
but i don't think you want that, and you have to be carefull with that.
(if you do so, everybody sitting in front of your drive can throw root commands at it)

I tried all off that, when I click on the icon it just jumps up and down and does nothing.
So I'm a bit lost, It doesn't really matter if I get it to work or not as I can still right click on desktop and exit like that but it would be nice to have everything working as one would want.

ehm, well.
i installed cairo-dock. i tryed both versions. (standard and GLX enabled) but as soon as i hit an icon
the program launches, but inmediately cairo-dock crashes.
The logout applet says that, if you left-click, it wil logout, and middle-click will shutdown.
you can configure the applet to reverse that, but if i try that, cairo-dock inmediately crash.
anyway, no matter if i left, or middle-click, it shuts down the entire system. (and in a glance, just before it shuts down, i can see cairo-dock crashing) so the logout-applet does work...

I don't know what happened, but right now i can't help you, since im not even able to acces the Dock. Sorry.
i hope that others will read this, and come up with a solution for you.

The Dock looks great thow.
it was a nice experience, but for me., i think i'll stick with Avant-window-navigator. :-)

Thanks batvink for all your help , I'm using xcompmgr with cairo-dock as my graphics card isn't the best and using the macos theme for the dock, maybe I should try another theme and see what happens.
Thanks again
